Monday Mommy Tip - Control Clutter with Yard Sale

You can control clutter by throwing a yard sale. This is especially helpful if you have little kids because you know how quickly they accumulate toys. Give your little ones an incentive to sell and let go of toys they no longer use and play with anymore by letting them keep the money they make from the sales of their old toys. This can be a fun activity that you guys can do together - going through all the toys and figuring out which ones they have outgrown. This is a good way to teach kids about business and money. This is also a great way to control the clutter in your kids room.

Friday Faves - Scary Movie

It’s a few days before Halloween and of course you know what that means … it’s the time for scary movies. Now, I’m not really into “Scary Movies” - you see, if I watch something too freaky, I’ll end up dreaming of it. But I do watch some especially if I am watching with my family. I only have one favorite scary movie so far … and it’s “Sixth Sense” - I like the twist of the story - one movie that really freaked me out is “The Grudge” - especially because my son looked like the little boy in the movie. How about you what’s your favorite scary movie?

If you want to join us in our Friday Meme - go ahead and post your Favorite Scary Movie in your blog and link back to MommyCommunity.com. You can use our graphic below by copying the html code and pasting it in your blog post. Then, add your name and URL to the link and a comment would be super awesome too!

Sneak Peek - Family Camping Trip

As promised, here is a sneak peek of our camping trip over the weekend. We went to Barton Flats - luckily we went home soon before the California Wild fires started. Many thanks to Kim of ScrapbookAlive.com for introducing me to video scrapbooking.

Will you help your fellow WAHM in need?

My friend Kelly has posted a plea in her blog yesterday. Kelly is trying to help raise funds for Tishia - A fellow work at home mom who is in a pinch and could really use some help. Tishia is a single mom who works from home who was surprised by her electric company with a $769 electric bill. This bill came about when the electric company realized that they were undercharging Tishia for the past 2 years. I do not think it’s Tishia’s fault if the electric company undercharged her - they were the ones reading the meter and they should make sure that their meters read right - if the meter is broken, it’s their responsibility to fix it. Of course, Tishia will have to pay for the bill (for what she owes) but, I don’t think it’s fair for the electric company to charge her and expect her to pay - one lump sum. I hope they can figure out some kind of payment arrangement. As a fellow work at home mom, I can understand what a shock this could be - reading a bill - charging you so much money. I helped out by donating what I can. If you are a fellow wahm and would like to help Tishia out … any way you can, go to Kelly’s blog and see how you can help out - no amount is too small.

Halloween - The Sweetest Day of the Year

Halloween is usually the time when kids get to really enjoy sweets. During the Halloween season, you can see bags of treats and candies sold in almost all the grocery stores. It can get pretty boring to see the same treats and goodies being handed out during the trick or treating. Here are some creative ways to make Halloween treats more exciting.

Bake some fun and Halloween themed cookies. You can use your favorite cookie recipe or even store bought cookie dough and use cookie cutters in fun shapes like ghosts. You can then have the kids decorate the ghost cookies with various colors of icing and sprinkles.

Try baking brownies and before they totally cool, cut it into a ghost shape using a paring knife. You can then use some melted white chocolate in a piping bag to outline the ghost shape. Don’t forget to draw the eyes and mouth. You can continue on by decorating the ghost brownie with colored frosting.

What about spooky cup cakes. Bake cup cakes according the the regular directions and cool. You can then frost it with orange colored frosting. Purchase some bat rings - you can find these in your local birthday party store - you can even use skull rings or spider rings and place the ring on tip of the frosted cup cake. This is something easy enough for the little kids to do.

This is one of the kids’ favorite times of the year. With these fun and easy treats - you can actually have kids help out and have fun in the Halloween festivities. Enjoy preparing these sweets with your kids - this might even be a Halloween tradition for your family. And when the kids grow up, they can pass on the tradition to their own kids. Have a great time and enjoy these fun and sweet activites and treats with the kids - they do grow up so quickly.
