Work from Home Using Your Typing Skills

I’m often asked what a mom can do from home if she wants a business, but wants to have the benefit of a paycheck. My answer to that is get into a service based business. These businesses are a great option for moms who want to be paid hourly/per project or typed line, but wants the freedom a business offers instead of working a job.

My answer to the mom who wants to put her typing skills to good use and create a profitable and successful service based business is to start a transcription business. And with transcription you have two options.

1. Medical Transcription

Or

2. General Transcription

With medical transcription you’ll need an education in medical terminology and will need some type of experience in order to grow a successful business.

But, general transcription requires much less. You don’t need any specialized training, education, or experience. You simply need a desire to type, the ability to type what you hear, and a decent typing speed.

Of course when you’re building a business you’ll need more than just the skills of the trade. You’ll need to know how to build and grow your business into the successful money maker you want, too.

If you want to help cut your learning curve in half I recommend buying the Transcription Starter Pack by Nell Taliercio. She has recently reduced the price from $24.95 to only $17.47.

Taking Care of Your Kids and Your Parents

It’s unavoidable. At some point in our life you will be faced with the reality that your aaging parents will need care. It can be challenging if you are the only child and you have a family of your own to deal with. Caring for your kids while caring for your parent can be extremely daunting. Below are some tips you can follow to make dealing with care giving easier:

Here’s the deal - don’t stress over it and don’t panic. If you have space in your home, why not let your parent stay with you. If they are not seriously ill, but just aged, it could be to your advantage to have them with you. Hey, they can probably even baby-sit for you. It’s a win-win. Of course you will have to have a family meeting and let your husband and kids know and plan as a family. Make sure everyone is OK with the new living situation. Make sure you give everyone a chance to voice the opinion.Remember, the family will have to give up a part of their comfort zone.

If your aged parent is not willing to move from their home or apartment, to move in with you and your family, make sure to have a plan b. You may have to arrange for social services or meals-on-wheels to ensure that your parent is well cared for. If your kids are teenagers, perhaps you can ask them to make frequent trips to their grandparent’s home to check-up on them and make sure they are safe, eating well and taking all their necessary medications.

In certain cultures, parents live with their kids until they pass. Sadly in America, there is a tendency to send older parents to nursing homes. It is a difficult decision to make but those of you who do accept responsibility for your parents will never regret it. It can be your way of paying back, since they took care of you when you were young.

It is doable. You can care for your kids while you care for your parent at the same time. It does require preparation, open communication and serious planning. If you have other siblings, get their help - you will need it too. Whatever the situation, be assured that there are numerous ways available to you in landing the proper resources to care for your parents, irregardless of what physical condition they are in.

Article Writing - Don’t make it harder than it is

Writing articles isn’t as hard as you may think. If you understand the rules of proper grammar, and you have a word processor or word processing software that includes a spell checker, writing articles becomes quite easy in fact. Here is a tip to help you out.

Don’t make it harder than it really is. This is the first mistake that most new article writers make. Think about what you want to say, then just start writing. Don’t worry about spelling or grammar, just write until you have said all that you wanted to say. Editing comes after the information is down on paper – or on your computer screen in a document.

A Fun and Inexpensive Way to Stay Cool this Summer

This summer, my 9 year old son is having so much fun staying cool. How? Well, he has been making popsicles. I took out a popsicle mold I have in my cupboard and introduced him to it and he has been so busy - making popsicles.

He makes it using fruit juices, flavored teas and even chocolate milk - yum! I actually have a couple popsicle molds so it keeps him busy. It saves us some cash - cause grocery bought popsicles can be costly. You can find the popsicle molds in your local Walmart, Target, Savon or Rite-Aid Stores and you can order them online too!

Have fun with the kids during this summer - invent your own flavor popsicle!

Stay Safe in the Water this Summer

Well, it’s summer time once again and of course the family will want to go to the beach or swim in the pool. Did you know that 90% of children who drown are under four years old? I am just talking about backyard pools. Keeping safe during the summer is extremely important. Enjoy the summer and stay safe by following the tips below:

  • If you have a pool - it would be best to have it fenced in. Make sure the entrance to the pool is locked so kids can not access it with out an adult.
  • If you kids are little and do not know how to swim, buy an age appropriate floating device for them.
  • If you have toys in your backyard pool, make sure you take them out, and put them away.
  • If you have an inflatable pool, make sure to drain it and store it away after the kids use it.
  • Make sure you have your wireless phone or cell phone close by when you are enjoying the pool.
  • When swimming in public pools or at the beach, swim where lifeguards are visible.
Make sure to stay in sight of the lifeguard. Read signs posted on the beach regarding restricted areas. Keep your eyes open for jellyfish or other dangerous sea animals.
  • Listen to the lifeguard. If they tell you to come out of the water, do so.
  • When at the beach, make sure your children are with in your view and are close to you.
  • If you are not a good swimmer, stay close to shore.
  • Know that riptides can be dangerous and can pull you out to sea.
  • Alert the lifeguard if you see someone drowning or if you see anyone hurt.
  • Take a CPR course - it will be helpful, in case of an emergency.
  • Remember, it is better to be safe than sorry. Whether you are out with your kids enjoying the pool or the beach, it only takes a few minutes for an unfortunate situation to happen. Be cautious, stay safe and keep an eye on your kids.

    Starting a new …

Marie YnamiWell, this is sort of a re-introduction. My name is Marie and I am Your Friendly Webmama. I have been running Mommy Community since June 2003. I have recently remodeled our site - gave it a newer, cleaner look. I hope you find it easier to navigate.

A little bit about me … I am a work at home mom of 3 busy kids. I have a supportive and loving hubby who is a little kid at heart too. We have 3 crazy dogs, a doxie, a pug and rottie - and we have 2 fishes too (a goldfish and a beta fish).  I am busy all the time - LOL! My kids keep me busy. I am an active volunteer in their schools, like I have nothing better to do.

I love surfing the net, crafting, singing karaoke and meeting other moms. What do you think of our new look? If you are new to the site or are a returning visitor, feel free to leave me a comment. I look forward to learning more about you!

Mommy Community - 4th Year Anniversary

Mommy Community is turning another year older. We have been around for 4 years now and I am just loving all the moms I have met and have helped through the years. I have made so many friends - from different parts of the world.

Mommy Community has grown so much - we have added lots of new sites in our network. We are actually finishing up some much needed remodeling for our site. Thank you so very much for all our loyal visitors - without you, we can not be here.

    Marie
