It’s time for Spring Cleaning

Time flies by so quickly. Can you belive that it is time once again for your annual spring cleaning? The weather has been really wacky - they say it’s global warming but that is no excuse not to get into your spring cleaning routine. so, let’s get started.

In some places of the world, the windows may be frozen shut - in others, they are not. In any event, it would be great to be able to open the windows and let in the fresh air! But it is not as simple as that. You will need to wash those windows. But, what if you are not in the mood? Here’s a quick tip … grab your favorite upbeat cd. It is surprising how the music will put you in the cleaning mode.

Ok, so the windows are washed, it‘s time to take down the drapes and dust those blinds. Are you ready? Take out those spring curtains, iron them and put them up. Doesn’t that look good? Now let’s get going … time to work in the kitchen to clean up those shelves. Keep that music going - it’ll help you stay motivated and will make time fly by even quicker.

Alrighty then, time to get more physical! Take out your vacuum. If you have some disco cd’s - that’ll even be better. You can dance while you vacuum - how fun is that! You can then proceed to tidying up the bathroom. Dusting and polishing is next on the agenda. Do some knee bends as you clean and polish the coffee table.

You are almost done - hurray! It’s just the kid’s rooms that need tidying up. As you work your way through their rooms, picking up toys; you are done! Dance your way back to the kitchen and have a a tall glass of iced tea.  You deserve it. Wasn’t that an awesome workout? I bet you didn’t know Spring cleaning can feel so good.

Is Your Nail Salon all that?

There have been some incidents of infections from nail salons due to their inability to keep their instruments clean. If you enjoy getting manicures or pedicures, here are some tips on what to look for in a nail salon.

Upon first glance, your favorite nail salon may look quite clean. The dangers, however, are there and may be unnoticeable.  As you know, most of the instruments used in a nail salon are put into an ultraviolet container. Merely dunking their tools into a dish of soap and water is not sufficient to rid them of the bacteria which they may carry.

In addition, pedicures can be just as dangerous because if the instruments used are not properly cleaned, or the tub in which you place your feet is not disinfected. While it may seem as if these instruments are cleaned before reuse, you may be in for a surprise. There have been cases where women have developed fungal and bacteria infections to their fingernails and toenails. Yuck!

Have you noticed that after a manicure, your nails break more easily? This usually requires you to keep on going back to the nail salon month after month. The reason for this is that the enamel is worn down during filing, leaving your fingernails open to breakage. This then requires you to go back; and this process happens over and over again. Plus, if you notice that your nails are being poked and prodded more aggressively than usual, it is a disaster waiting to happen. If bleeding occurs, use Neosporin immediately – carry it with you. Their use of alcohol will only aggravate the situation.

The next time you decide to go for a manicure/pedicure; use vigilance. Know what is used to clean and sterilize the instruments if at all, or are they merely put into the ultraviolet case. Is the tub merely washed with soap and water; if so, this is unacceptable. Do the instruments seem dirty to you; are there traces of cuticle skin on them. I know some women who bring in their own instruments to be used for their nails. I think that is smart. Manicures and pedicures may be relaxing, but it pays to be extra careful when choosing salon.
